Essential Oil Candles in Tins
I found these candles at a trade show I went to and it's not often I get stopped in my tracks, but these just did it for me. They're attractively packaged, contain nice, clean burning soy wax and just have such a beautiful set of blends of essential oils in them that I had to stock them. So here they are. They won't replace the diddy essential oil candles we've stocked for ages, those are a cute little impulse buy and priced so that you don't mind buying yourself a present. These Purbeck candles are more of a Gift For Other People type, or as a spluge thing for yourself, they're smart and substantial enough to be given on their own or as part of a hamper.
One of the reasons I like this range so much I guess is that the lovely lady who owns Purbeck and I seem to have similar taste in blends - we both like a blend of florals with citrusses, we're both a bit partial to patchouli and geranium. She has similar ethics (only using soy wax and essential oils) and hand makes her products in Dorset, not a million miles from us, so it seems a good fit. I hope you love them as much as I do.
Lazy Sunday Afternoon - A very relaxing blend of oakmoss, gereanium, patchouli, rosemary, sandalwood and sweet orange. That all sounds like a lot to take in but to my mind it's the perfect "background nice smell" blend (my personal favourite) - no one of those scents dominates and together they just leave a light, pleasant scent that's very easy to live with.
Hygge - A sophisticated blend, this one is of geranium, patchouli, lavender, lemon and sweet orange. With all those citruses in there, it's fresh but the geranium and lavender keep thier floral edge with a base of woody patchouli to keep them all grounded, a great candle to burn while you're having a relaxing bath.
Chelsea Flowers - Like opening a window on a Summer's day - this blend of rose geranium, palmarosa, lavender, bergamot and cedarwood is floral, heady and with just a hint of moutwatering citrus.
Mindfulness - Is a mix of sweet orange, patchouli, sandalwood, frankincense, rosemary and myrrh, making it the sort of thing you'd smell in a spa or one of those terrifyingly expensive yoga studios. It's clever and multilayered, a very sopisticated smell and yet not overpowering.
Heavenly Citrus - This is a real 'does what it says on the tin' job, it's just jiucy and fresh and hits all the citrus notes as it should, it's made up of bergamot, grapefruit and sweet orange. A really simple scent that's super easy to live with and would be especially good if you've got pets, citrus smells do a great job of cutting through pet odours.
Herb Garden - A new one and we love it. A zingy, tasty mix of familiar rosemary, lavender, thyme and sage that just hits all the right notes. This would be a great candle to have with a bath to clear your mind, focus on you and let the day go.
Market Garden - We keep selling out of this one and I think it's because it's such a simple scent. Rose geraniuim, grapefruit and cedarwood combine here to give an impression of perfume but without any cloying notes. It's clean smelling, not too feminine but pleasantly floral.
The Orangery - As you'd expect, this is a citrus based candle, but the sweet orange is mixed with geranium which gives it that fresh, garden-on-a-Summer-morning feeling, such a cheerful bright scent that it just makes you happy. It's an unfussy, clean and clear smell that would work in any room of the house. Would be an espcially thoughtful gift for anyone who needs a bit of a lift emotionally.
Pure Indulgence - A complex floral scent made up of ylang ylang, geranium, bergamot, cedarwood and sweet orange. Again, it's got that spa feeling, this is a great bathroom or bedroom candle.
Secret Garden - This is a mouthwatering scent, the bright citrus notes of the bergamot soften the cedarwood and they're both balanced by the lavender very nicely, it just smells clean and fresh, a really appealing home scent.
Oriental Flower - Geranium, lemongrass and cedarwood are combined here and I can totally see why it's got this name, it does have an Oriental feel to it, it's exotic and very delicate.
Spa Days - This mix of geranium, patchouli, lavender lemon and sweet orange is all about freshness, indulgence and pampering, it's so well named. The citrus notes keep it light and airy but it's got the substance of the other layers to make it a sophiticated scent, it's a very cleverly crafted scent and always sells out quickly.
Sea Breeze - this is a new scent from Purbeck and already we love it. Lavender, bergamot, rosemary, eucalyptus and cedar all all gorgeous outsidey type smells to bring indoors but none of them dominate here, it's very well done. Again, for me it's more of a bathroom candle as opposed to a sitting room one, this is a great scent for a long bath and a bit of self care.
Summer Haze - This one has me conflicted, I've loved the Sunday Afternoon blend for so long I feel like I'm cheating on it by liking this new one so much. It has a sweet floral heart of geranium, neroli, juniper and jasmine and a heart note of bergamot which hits those citrus and woody tones, this is just delightful. Fresh, heady, citrussy, a real treat.
