Essential Oil - Lavender
An old favourite and with VERY good reason. If you only buy one oil, make it this one. This has been used for so long I think we've forgotten all it can do. Not only does it smell wonderful but it's so very versatile. I could write a whole book about this oil but very briefly:
Do you fancy a good night sleep? Put a drop on your pillow. Also very effective in a childs bath before bedtime, the calming aroma will soothe even the most savage little beast.
Got an insect bite? A drop applied directly to the bite will soothe, take away the itch and heal the swelling.
Burn yourself on the cooker? Get it straight under cold water and apply neat oil directly to the affected area and feel that healing start. It's startlingly effective at this.
Got a small cut? Clean with wound with water and apply a drop of neat oil to the boo-boo and the antiseptic properties of the lavender will disinfect as well as heal. Great for scraped knees for example.
I could go on and on, this is not just a flower oil, it's nature's medicine cabinet.
As a safe guide, use no more than 8 drops in a bath for a skin nourishing soak, 2-3 drops in a foot spa (or old washing up bowl for the old fashioned among us...) and no more than 4 drops per 100mls of base or carrier oil.
10ml (from England)

I find that some aloe vera gel with tea tree and lavender EOs makes for a very good spot zapper and it helps with scarring too (I use 2 drops per 10ml dilution).

In the winter, we tend to have the heating on later in the evening so some nights if I need to relax a bit before bed, I put a few drops of Lavender on my radiator in my room about 10mins before I go to bed, shut the door. Then when I come to bed my room is all tranquil smelling! I don't recomend putting it on tissue on your pillow or anything because it can be too strong then it ends up keeping me awake!
